Mbaraonye Ncheta Evans of Chrisland High School VGC has won the Sidmach Prize after emerging as the overall best candidate in the May/June 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in Lagos State. The award was presented today at the 2024 Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) Lagos IT Conference and Awards. Evans was the Deputy Head Boy of Chrisland High School VGC. He followed the footsteps of three alumni of Chrisland High School VGC; Damilola Bolarin the third overall best candidate in WASSCE 2015 in Lagos State, Michelle Adeagbo, who was the second overall best and best female candidate in WASSCE 2018 in Nigeria and also Kasim Haneefa, the second overall best candidate in WASSCE 2020 in Lagos State. As part of our corporate social responsibility initiative and in support of the Lagos State Government's Save Our School Initiative, Chrisland has proudly constructed a block of convenience for the learners at Ikota Primary School, Ajah. At the commissioning ceremony, Mrs. Ibironke Adeyemi, Managing Director of Chrisland, expressed our ongoing commitment to improving lives and collaborating with the state government, especially in the education sector. Mrs. Adeyemi highlighted that Chrisland has not only undertaken this project but had also organised health and safeguarding talks for the learners. Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Chrisland provided palliatives to the local community and extended similar support to communities in Idimu and Owo.. Representatives from the State Universal Basic Education Board, the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic Education, and the Eti-Osa Local Government Education Authority attended the ceremony. They expressed their gratitude to Chrisland and encouraged continued support for the school. Chrisland remains dedicated to contributing to the betterment of education and the well-being of our communities. On Tuesday, September 26, 2023 during the inaugural edition of the Beacon of Safety (BOS) Awards organized by the Safe School Lagos (SSLAG), an initiative of the Lagos State Safety Commission, our Schools in Lagos were awarded the Beacon of Safety Awards. According to the organisers, the award was given to schools and individuals that have demonstrated exceptional dedication to enhancing safety practices and minimising risks in the school environment.”
The award is an acknowledgment of the strides we have made in our efforts to ensure that our learners receive a world-class education in a safe, secure, and supportive environment. In the same vein, our Managing Director, Mrs Ibrionke Adeyemi, was awarded the Beacon of Safety Visionary Award. We want to use this medium to reiterate our commitment to safety and compliance and regulatory agencies’ requirements.
Femi Awowade, President of the Financial Scrabble Association, applauded the Winifred Awosika Foundation for its significant impact, emphasising that Nigeria now holds the top position as the best Scrabble nation worldwide.
The Trophy Tour had already made its mark in Ghana and Kenya before arriving in Nigeria, and it will continue to other countries, including Liberia, Uganda, Botswana, and South Africa before the competition begins in August 2023. Dr Awosika expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the organisers of Scrabble tournaments in Nigeria for their relentless efforts in promoting competitions among young people. |
