David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido attended Chrisland School VGC, and in 2015, he graduated from Babcock University with a degree in Music. In 2012, Davido took the music industry by storm with his mega-hit, Dami Duro. He followed it up with his critically acclaimed sophomore album, Omo Baba Olowo, O.B.O (a name that became his moniker). For his effort, he won the Next Rated Artiste award at The Headies 2012.
A serial hit-maker and discoverer of talents, in 2016, he founded Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) and has signed superstars like Peruzzi, Mayorkun, Idowest, and Lita. In July 2016, Davido signed a record deal with Sony’s RCA Records. In April 2017, he released the top-charting singles, If and Fall; both songs were a hit internationally, and for a while, Fall was the longest-charting Nigerian pop song in Billboard history. A prolific collaborator, he’s guested on countless Nigerian singles and has joined forces with artists across continents, including Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie, Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz, South Africa’s Mafikizolo, American artistes, Chris Brown, Rae Sremmurd, and Young Thug. In March 2022, Davido, alongside Trinidad Cardona and AISHA, was featured on “Hayya Hayya (Better Together)", the first single of the multi-song FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ Official Soundtrack; it marked Davido as the first Nigerian singer to be featured on a FIFA World Cup single. The Chrislander also has numerous awards and accolades to his name. Davido won Best African Act at the 2017 MOBO Awards. He also won Best International Act at the 2018 BET Awards, becoming the first African artist to receive his award on the main stage. A serial philanthropist, he is equally known for his benevolence and support for charities. Davido was cited as one of the Top 100 most influential Africans by New African magazine in 2019. Davido joins the rank of other A-listed entertainers, including Omotola Jalade Ekehinde, Kaffy, and Adunni Ade, who attended Chrisland Schools. |
