
The establishment of Chrisland Nursery and Primary School in Victoria Garden City
in the year 1998 was aimed at extending the high standard of education and the
tradition of child care for which the Chrisland organization is known to the quality
conscious parents and residents of VGC and its environs. Apart from its architectural
masterpiece, Chrisland School VGC boast of modern facilities, high-tech teaching aids,
well-manicured lawns and a generally stimulating learning environment.
HEALTH
There are well equipped sickbays with qualified personnel. First aid treatment is
administered in case of minor illness or accidents during the school hours.
More serious cases are referred to the school doctor nearby.
VISITING
Open days are meant for inquiries into pupils performances, any other inquiry can only
be made during the week before and after classes. NO VISITS ARE ALLOWED DURING SCHOOL HOUR.
PTA
Chrisland encourages a close interaction between parents and teachers… that is why there
is a vibrant Parents Teacher Association (PTA). The PTA has a working constitution. Elections
are held once a year at the beginning of a session. All levies are paid through PTA account
opened for the purpose.
PTA meetings are held once a term. Such meetings serve as forum for parents and guardians to
reach an understanding on issues of mutual benefits to the children and the schools. Apart
from these meetings, open days are observed once a term to enable parents discuss their
children’s progress in the school.
A brief enunciation of parent’s responsibility to the school is:
Fees should be paid and receipt obtainable before the beginning of each term
Pupils are expected to be appropriate and neatly dressed at all times
Pupils are expected to be punctual- they should arrive in school not later than 7.50 a.m.
schools activities start by 8.00 a.m. Monday to Friday.
Circulars issued by the school should be carefully studied and positively responded to.
Parents are requested to attend ceremonies such as concerts, sports and prize giving days,
to cheer their children.
Open days are to be attended by parents in the interest of their children.
Please note that only parents and guardians (not their representatives) are allowed to come.
They are also the only ones permitted to collect their children/wards’ report booklets.
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
Parents are allowed to bring biscuits, sweets, cakes and drinks for their child to share with
friends on his or her birthday.
Chewing gum and cooked food are not allowed. All items must be brought in before break period
to the school office.
PUBLICATIONS
Each school publishes a yearbook at the end of every session. It features the effort of the
pupils at expressing their thoughts, ideas and creativity. Even though supplements are provided
by their teachers, the pupils are the souls of the publications. The publications show the
pupils’ experiences of the Chrisland culture with words and pictures.
Other publications include the “Chrisland Web” which is newsletter providing information on all
the Chrisland schools. This is published twice a session.
Each school also publishes its own newsletter termly.
COMMUNICATION
There are also regular correspondence between the school and the home in the form of circulars,
memos and the pupil’s communication books.
HOME WORK/ PROJECT
Pupil’s parents/ guardians are expected to monitor them to ensure that they do their daily
home work. The school time-table is given to pupils to help parents ensure that the relevant
text books are brought to school on the day the subjects are taught.
Long term and short term projects are given to the children. These are meant to excite their
creativity and encourage research. Parents are enjoined to give every support.
DISCIPLINE
We believe that good behavior is essential if children are to learn well, make good progress
and make the most of the opportunities we can offer. We also believe that children should know
right from wrong and that good behaviour once established is likely to last a lifetime.
Therefore appropriate corrective measures can administered as the school deems fit in cases of wrongdoing.
WITHDRAWALS
A full term’s notice in written should be given to the school in the situation of plans to withdraw
any pupil from the school. Non-compliance with this will warrant the payment of a full term’s fees
in lieu of notice. School leaving or transfer certificate will be issued on the condition that:
The student has attended the school for at least one year.
All fees in respect of the child have been paid.
Due notice of the withdrawal has been given or appropriate fees paid in lieu of notice.
As stipulated reservation fee is payable if a pupil has a genuine reason for been absent for
a period of one term.
No refund of fees shall be made by the school if a child is suspended or advised to withdraw.
Please note that once a pupil has commenced a term, fees for that term cannot be refunded
CURRICULAR
The school year is divided into three terms running from September to July. Three weeks holiday
are usually given at Christmas and Easter. All gazetted public holidays are also observed by the school.
Parents are given notices of these and other terminal holidays.
ACADEMICS
Chrisland Nursery and Primary schools effectively combines the British and Nigerian curriculum
in a way that accords the children qualitative education with global relevance. Our programs caters
for the special needs of the young in our care.
Six learning areas at the Nursery stage
At the Nursery stage, the six learning areas are: Numeracy, Literacy, Personal Social Development,
Knowledge and understanding of the of the world, physical development and creative development.
In all, premium is placed on learning and cultivation of etiquette and manners.
Subjects taught at the primary level are Literacy, Numeracy, Geography, History, Social Studies,
Vocational Aptitude, Moral Instruction, Primary Science, Current Affairs, Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa,
French, Physical and Health Education, Art and Crafts, Music, Home Economics and ICT.
ASSESSMENT
Pupils are graded using the result of the Continuous Assessment Scores (CAS) and the results of
the exams administered at the end of each term. The CAS is comprised of the scores in home
assignments, class work, class tests and projects, constituting 40% of each term score while
the terminal exam accounts for 60%.
Remedial classes are held for challenged pupils in both nursery and primary classes.
BOOKS
Each child is provided with textbooks, stationeries for drawings, painting and modeling by
the school. Parents are billed for such items.
E-Friendly School
Chrisland Nursery and Primary school is modern, e-friendly school. Our classes are
commodious and class session with the children and usually ICT-driven. Interactive board
as well as computer based training equipment is available in all the classrooms for
effective teaching and learning.
CO-CURRICULAR
Outside academics, Chrisland Schools have a thriving socio-culture. There are different
release valve for all the natural joy and exuberance of our pupils. We believe they must
be quick with mind and strong in limb and must have healthy doses of fun!
EXCURSIONS
EXCURSIONS are made to places of interest- Local, national and international.
Children’s programmes are encouraged. Chrisland pupils have been to Manufacturing
industries, Recreational Centres, Newspapers Houses, Agricultural Establishments and
to places as far as Lome in Togo. In a special known as Charity Aid Week, visits are
made to special Homes like Orphanages, Remand Centres & Old Peoples Homes to commemorate
children’s day which is the nucleus of the Charity Aid Week.
SPECIAL DAYS
Some days in the term are designated as SPECIAL DAYS, wholly dedicated to the pursuit of
worthy causes, for moral instructions for the children and to have celebration of some
sort. Some of these special days are the Nursery Day, Art and Culture Day, Annual Variety
Night, Library Day, Valedictory Day among others.
SPORTS
INTER-HOUSE SPORTS COMPETITIONS are held annually by the various schools Houses.
The competition houses are: Daffodil, Lily, Lotus and Iris. Awards in the form of
trophies and plaques are welcome from parents to encourage and reward good sportsmanship
in children.
CLUBS AND SOCIETIES
CLUBS AND SOCIETIES exists to absorb the natural tendencies of their mind and engage
their curiosity. There is the Junior Engineers Technicians and Scientists (JETS); Art,
Dance and Drama, French, Ballet, Music for the creative and artistic, Brownies,
Home Makers, Young Farmers, Boys Scouts and Red Cross Society. Swimming and Takewaendo
clubs are available for the physically active; while Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo cultural
Groups are the natural choices for those who love traditional African culture.
Each child is a member of the Literary and Debating Society, for the development
of self-esteem and confidence in articulation of their personal views and opinions.
